Introduction:

Mazda Motor Corporation has announced to plans a new module pack plant for automotive cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Features:

Mazda Motor Corporation’s new module pack plant in Iwakuni City will produce modules and packs of automotive cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells supplied by Panasonic Energy Co., Ltd. (Panasonic Energy). These completed battery packs will power Mazda's first dedicated battery EV, built on an exclusive EV platform and manufactured at Mazda’s vehicle plant in Japan. The facility is designed for an annual production capacity of 10 GWh.

The collaboration between Mazda and Panasonic Energy to expand battery production and advance technology has been certified by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as a "plan to ensure stable supply of storage batteries."

Mazda aims to deliver unique battery-electric vehicles that blend distinctive design, convenience, and extended driving ranges, utilizing battery module packs from this new facility. The plant will also play a vital role in boosting local employment and fostering regional economic growth.
